Menopause Monday ~ Night Sweats: What the Heck is Happening?

Happy Monday, ladies! I hope everyone had a nice weekend! We had gorgeous weather both days, and got a lot done around the house!

Obviously, I changed out some curtains for the new season, and that always makes me happy! If you didn’t know…I have a small obsession with curtains!!

A productive weekend always makes for a slow-moving start to the week for me. These are the mornings that I look forward to my dark brew coffee even more!

So, if you’re ready to get this day going, then let’s go! Because it’s Menopause Monday here on A Cup for the Next Chapter!

We’re going to talk about something that affects a lot of women during menopause, and that is night sweats.

My own experience with menopause began in my late forties. I was in peri-menopause, although I had no idea what was happening to me!

Because growing up, my mom NEVER talked about it. I guess back then, it wasn’t something that women discussed.

That seems so crazy to me since every woman will eventually experience this change.

But having night sweats, and not realizing they could be part of menopause, can be very frightening.

I remember waking up out of a deep sleep drenched in sweat and feeling so scared because I thought I had a high fever. Not only was I clammy, but the chills were setting in.

My husband took my temperature, but it was normal! I thought to myself, how could that be?? The thermometer just had to have been broken. If we had a spare one around the house, I probably would’ve taken my temperature again!!

The next day, I started searching the internet in hopes that I would discover the terrible virus I had!

I kept seeing the same word posted over and over again…MENOPAUSE!

Well, I knew I had some investigating to do because I knew absolutely nothing about this thing called menopause!

Once I realized that night sweats could be part of menopause, I started paying closer attention to what might be triggering them.

Staying away from really spicy foods and limiting myself to two cups of coffee a day really helped. I also noticed that I would have night sweats whenever I was really stressed over something. So as hard as it is some days, I try to keep my stress levels down.

Now that I’m in post-menopause, thankfully, I haven’t had them as frequently.

Ladies, have you experienced night sweats during menopause? Did you find one thing in particular that helped you cope with them?

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
