Fall Decorating Mini-Series ~ Week 3: A Cozy Fall Mantel Without Spending a Fortune
Happy Friday Eve, ladies! My coffee has been brewing for the past few minutes, and the kitchen smells very homey! Hopefully, you’re enjoying a hot beverage in your favorite mug this morning!
Well, can you believe it? We’re already on Week 3 of my fall decorating mini-series! Last week, we talked about tablescapes. You can read that post here: https://acupforthenextchapter.com/fall-decorating-mini-series-week-2-tablescape-ideas/
This week, we’re moving into the family room to decorate the mantel for fall!
My mantel is the main focal point of my family room, so I like to put a lot of thought into how I want it to look for each season. Notice I said a lot of thought, not a lot of money! 🤣
I believe decorating your home doesn’t need to cost you an arm and a leg!
Since the cold weather will soon be knocking at my front door, I like to create a warm and cozy atmosphere in my home, especially in the family room.
Now, ladies, I’ll be the first one to admit that I drive my husband bonkers when I decorate! Mainly for two reasons.
First, I love moving furniture around, which I usually do when no one else is home. And I know I’m going to hear the “Why didn’t you wait until later? I would’ve helped you!” speech. It happens every single time!
But after being married to me for thirty-six years, my husband knows that Chelle Noelle is NOT going to wait! Especially when she has something on her noggin that she wants to do! LOL 😂
The second thing my husband can always expect me to do when decorating the house is some sort of lighting project! And, of course, I always need his help when it comes to putting lights outside. You see, I’m scared of heights, so the ladder is not my friend! That’s when my husband really comes into action!
I love decorating with lights, especially battery-operated and solar lights! Don’t get me wrong, I love candles, too, but I don’t necessarily like the worry that comes with them.
Leaving the room with them lit or leaving the house after I’ve blown them out can make me nervous. There’s always that “Did I leave those candles burning?” moment when I’m already in the car heading down the road.
And if I happen to hear a fire engine siren while I’m driving away from home, well, let’s just say I turn into my mom.
Immediately, I’m thinking our house is up in flames! Not a good feeling in the pit of your stomach by any means! 😳
Chelle Noelle needs to get to today’s post!!! I know…I know!! 😂
Let’s Decorate the Fall Mantel!
The first thing I decide on is what garland I will use. That ultimately depends on the time of year I’m decorating.
Since it’s October, I’m going to use my fall leaf garland! This time of year is great for decorating because there are so many rich, gorgeous colors! 🍂

Next, I’m going to add my “bookends,” also known as my candleholders and candles.
The mantel is looking rather cozy, but it definitely needs at least one strand of battery-operated lights! So, onto the mantel they go!
At this point, I like to take a step back and look at the mantel from the family room entrance.
Here are a few things I consider: Does it look too busy? Does it look too empty? Does it give me a warm and cozy vibe when I first walk into the room? Is there anything I need to add?
So, I look in my fall decorating bin to see if there’s anything I think needs to be on this mantel.
Ah, yes! A few faux pumpkins may complete the look I’m going for! 🎃
I turn on my battery-operated lights and flameless candles in hopes that everything looks inviting. But my real test will be tonight when I light up the mantel in the dark!
Sometimes, you just have to wait until evening to see how everything looks!

Thank you so much for stopping by for Week 3 of my fall decorating mini-series here on A Cup for the Next Chapter.
I hope you’ve found a few ideas to bring some warmth and coziness into your home. And remember, decorating doesn’t have to cost a lot to make your home feel special!
Now I’m curious: What’s one little thing you love doing to make your home feel cozy when the weather turns cooler? I’d love to hear about it!
Thanks for stopping by. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
