Makeup: Why Less is More For Me at 60

Well, ladies, we made it to the middle of the week!! It’s hard to believe that next week is Halloween! 🎃

Did you buy your candy yet? I didn’t, and I probably will wait until a few days before the trick-or-treaters arrive at my door.

I recall three or four years ago, waiting until the day BEFORE Halloween, and I couldn’t find any candy bags anywhere. I certainly do not want to be in that situation again!

The reason I try to hold off on the candy purchases is because it’s always so tempting knowing that those tasty treats are in the house.

Of course, I could always buy candy that we don’t like. Wait…is there even such a thing? 🤣

Today on the blog, I’m going to talk about makeup and how I’ve found that less is more for me at 60.

When I was a kid, I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup. In fact, I remember asking my mom if I could wear a little bit for my high school senior pictures. She had a small Maybelline blush powder palette that she let me use. “Don’t use too much! You don’t want to look like a clown!” My mom would say.

My, how times have changed! If you happen to go into any of those cosmetic stores today, I’m sure you would see at least three or four young girls under the age of 10, looking at the makeup! It seems like kids are wearing more and more makeup starting at an early age!

I remember how excited I was on my wedding day to have my hair, makeup and nails done! It was quite the treat!

But, in all honesty, I’ve never been one to wear a lot of makeup.

Now, if I’m going to a special event, such as a wedding, I’ll wear a little more than I normally would on a weekday!

Lately, though, I’ve found myself wearing less and less. And when I do wear it, I tend to steer more toward light colors and shades. I think the darker colors make me look much older, and the lighter colors more youthful.

Years ago, I remember how much I loved wearing Christmas-red lipstick. It made my blue eyes pop!

Now, when I wear lipstick, I like light pink and neutral shades, or even just a simple swipe of clear lip gloss. Quite a difference from the bright red!!! 💄

I used to be a fan of black mascara too. But today, if I use it, I like a brown-black shade. I feel it’s not as harsh-looking on my hooded eyelids! Something else I used to do years ago, but no longer do, is wear mascara on my lower lid. For me, it creates a shadow and that makes my eyes look like I haven’t slept in days!!

Ladies, do you remember that black liquid eyeliner that was super popular back in the day? I cannot even imagine wearing that today!

Again, light colors work for me. For eyeliner, I like a soft, warm brown shade. Although, I have this really pretty one in a medium shade of green that I like to wear sometimes on a date night!

My blush used to be a bright rosy powder, but now it’s a soft pink cream or liquid formula. No more powders for Chelle! They love to find their way into the smallest wrinkle and stay awhile! 🤣

I’ve never been a big fan of foundation. I just don’t like how heavy it feels on my face. I’ve tried brands that claim to be lightweight, but they don’t appear to feel that way on my skin. So, my OG standby is concealer.

Ladies, do you wear makeup every day? If I have errands to run or plan on meeting my sister for coffee, ☕ I’ll put a couple of dots of concealer on my T-zone after applying my skincare.

If I’m sporting that tired look, I’ll pat a little blush on my cheeks to look more awake.

So, as you can see, less makeup is more for me at 60!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this fun post!

Tomorrow is week 4 of my fall decorating mini-series. And it’s one of my favorite things to create every season: a coffee bar!

Take care!
