What the Heck Am I Supposed to Wear at 60?

Good Wednesday morning, my friends! I hope you’re having a great week! The leaves in my yard just keep falling and falling from the trees! Gosh, should I wait until they are all off of those darn branches before attempting to rake again? Because it’s rather frustrating to spend an entire day picking them up, only to look out the next morning and find another leaf construction zone in the front of your house!!

Thank goodness for my coffee! I’m nearing the bottom of my coffee mug and might have to go for a little “warmer.” ☕

Today, on A Cup for the Next Chapter, we’re going to talk about what we SHOULD be wearing once we turn the ripe ol’ age of 60! 🤣

First of all, who is going to tell us ladies what we can and cannot wear once we reach a certain age?

There’s no rule book, that I know of, that states when a woman turns 60, she can no longer wear high heels, leather pants, or short skirts.

That’s just all hogwash! But I’m not interested in dressing like I’m trying to be 25, nor do I want to dress like I’m supposed to be 80.

Have you ever been out shopping, spotted a really cute outfit, and found yourself asking, “Is this too young for me?”

Well, what do you do after those thoughts creep in? Do you pass it up and never look back? Or do you pop it in your shopping cart and head to the fitting room?

Why not try it on? You have nothing to lose, and you may end up loving the way it looks on you!

I want to dress for myself at 60. And what does that look like exactly? I’m not sure! All I know is that, for me, it means wearing whatever feels comfortable, makes me feel confident, and makes me feel pretty! Don’t we deserve to feel good about the outfits we put on our bodies every day? Age shouldn’t even be a factor here. Just because we are in a new decade doesn’t mean we can’t feel good about ourselves!!

So, it could be a black leather skirt, a fitted V-neck top, black tights, and tall black boots. Or bootcut jeans, a V-neck sleeveless black bodysuit, a black boyfriend blazer, and black combat boots.

Now, I know there are certain pieces of clothing I stay away from, such as crop tops, low-rise jeans, and turtlenecks. They just aren’t flattering on my body. Does being 60 have anything to do with not wanting to wear those items? Absolutely not!

And ladies, let me tell you something else! I don’t have a model figure or a flawless face. I’m 60, I’ve got curves, and yes, I’ve got a few wrinkles! But you know what? I’m proud of me! ❤

I don’t need a perfectly shaped body or a wrinkle-free face to wear what I love and feel good about myself.

And I’ll be honest with you. I didn’t always feel this way. But something about that magic number of 60 has helped me see things differently. I’m realizing that I don’t need to look a certain way to feel good about myself. I just need to be comfortable in my own skin and embrace the woman I’ve become. And that’s exactly what I’m learning to do!

I also think turning 60 has made me more grateful for the little moments in life, especially the time I get to spend with my family. I’m realizing just how precious those moments are, and I don’t want to spend my time worrying so much about what other people think of me. I want to enjoy my life, make memories with the people I love, and feel good about the woman I am.

And maybe that’s part of why I’ve become more confident in sharing my thoughts and experiences here on my blog, too. I’m learning that my voice matters, my experiences matter, and I don’t have to be perfect to share them with others.

Don’t get me wrong, ladies! Just because I’m learning to embrace who I am doesn’t mean those old insecurities have magically disappeared. There are still moments when I look in the mirror and question how something looks on me. I’m still learning to quiet that little voice in my head that wants to criticize every little thing. Because let’s be honest, confidence doesn’t always come naturally. Sometimes it’s something we have to work at, even at 60! ❤

Ladies, here’s a little story for you. I love my distressed jeans! You know, the ones with the ready-made rips and holes? Maybe some of you are shaking your heads at me right now. 🙄

I never, ever thought I’d even try on a pair of distressed jeans, let alone buy them! But once I slipped them on and buttoned the waist, I felt like I had my most comfortable pajama pants on!

I remember the first time I wore them. I was out shopping with my daughters, and I thought I’d never wear them again! Why, you ask? Some…of…the…looks…I…got! Well, let’s just say I was feeling a little insecure!

Then it dawned on me: Why am I giving these people control over what I should wear? That’s just crazy! Not everyone is going to like my distressed jeans, and that’s okay! I happen to love them, and that’s what matters to me! 😜

I’m learning that this next chapter of my life isn’t about pleasing everyone else. It’s about feeling good about who I am and not being afraid to show it!

So, to answer the question: What the heck am I supposed to wear at 60?

Whatever the heck you feel like wearing, ladies! You choose the outfits that allow you to be yourself. The ones that let you walk down the street with your head held high and a little strut in your step that says, “Look at me! I’m 60, and I’m super proud of who I am!” ❤️

I’m certainly not out here trying to look younger. I just want to look like me.

Thanks for stopping by today. Take care, and I’ll talk to you soon!
