Pumpkin Patches, Apple Picking, and Making New Memories
Good morning, ladies! My dark roast is a-brewin’, and I’m getting ready to kick off this beautiful day!☕
In the spirit of the fall season, and with Halloween only a few short days away, I thought it would be nice to talk about family traditions.
From the very beginning of our relationship, my husband and I have always enjoyed making memories together. And when we had our kids, we started creating family traditions for every season.
Of course, Christmas was always full of them, but fall had its fair share as well!
Growing up, apple picking was a family affair for us. Every year, we’d pile into the station wagon, excited for our trip to the orchard. 🍎
When my husband and I had our own kids, we carried that tradition into our family, making apple picking a yearly outing for us, too.
I remember how much fun it was picking apples right off the trees. And eating them while we were there? That was a treat in itself! 😂
And, of course, you can’t leave the orchard without enjoying a warm cider doughnut! There’s just something about those delicious fall treats that makes an apple-picking trip even sweeter.
We always took pictures of the kids pulling a shiny red apple from the trees or taking that first big bite! Looking back, those little pictures are such lovely reminders of the time we spent together.
Another fall activity we looked forward to every year was visiting the pumpkin patch. Some years, we’d go to a local pumpkin patch. The kids loved it there! They had a train they could ride and a bunch of face cutouts featuring their favorite characters. Of course, the best part of our visits was picking out our own pumpkins!

One year, my husband entered a pumpkin pie-eating contest at one of the local pumpkin patches. And guess what? He won! His prize was not only bragging rights, but a whole bunch of pumpkins! 😂
Here’s something I always think about when I remember those trips. When my husband and I were dating, we came across a cute pumpkin patch during a day trip to the countryside to see the fall foliage. Little did we know that years later, we’d be bringing our little ones to that very same pumpkin patch!

Isn’t it funny how a little outing when you’re dating can eventually become part of your family’s story? ❤
These days, our fall activities look a little different as the kids get older. We still find ways to spend time together, whether it’s taking a drive to see the beautiful fall foliage or heading out to a seasonal event.
A few weeks ago, my youngest daughter was home for a visit, and we all went to a local Oktoberfest. It was a great way to spend time together and celebrate the fall season!
I also have three pumpkins sitting on my porch right now. My daughter picked them out when she was home, and she carved one of them! She even took a picture of her creation with a light glowing inside it.

It’s those little seasonal moments that remind me that, even as our family life changes, there’s always room for new memories.
When I think back to those days of apple picking and trips to the pumpkin patch, I can’t help but feel grateful. We created so many wonderful moments over the years, and those memories will always hold a special place in my heart. ❤
Did you have any fall traditions in your family? Perhaps you’re still making them! I’d love to hear about them!
Thanks so much for stopping by A Cup for the Next Chapter.
Enjoy this gorgeous day!
