How a Little Cookie Can Bring Me So Much Joy

Happy, happy Friday, my friends! This week has seemed a bit longer than usual, so I’m looking forward to a fun fall weekend! What about you? Do you have any late-October plans?

One thing we have to do is rake up those darn leaves that have fallen from the trees yet again! Sometimes, when the wind blows ever so gently, I catch something flying out of the corner of my eye. I have to remind myself…Ain’t nothing but the leaves, Chelle Noelle! 🤣

Aside from the leaf pickup project, I’d like to carve the pumpkins sitting on my porch. There are also so many fall festivals happening everywhere!

Okay, let’s get on with the blog! Today on A Cup for the Next Chapter, we’re talking about those little moments that brought us happiness this past week.

I’m sure we’ve all experienced at least one moment that made us smile!

Sometimes, though, we have a hard time coming up with those happy moments because we’re searching our brains for something BIG.

We think about major events or exciting news, when often, the tiniest pockets of happiness are the ones that mean the most.

For me, this week’s moment of joy came in the form of a little homemade cookie.

There’s one cookie I’ve loved ever since I was a little girl. Maybe you’ve heard of it because it’s been around for ages. I’m talking about those delicious No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies!

And in my opinion, nobody ever made them better than my mom. ❤

They were creamy, never dry, and practically melted in your mouth!

Mom usually made these around the holidays, but every now and then, she’d whip up a batch for no particular reason. Just because!

Now, you might be wondering why I’m telling you about my mom making cookies. Well, there’s a little story behind it…and it involves a cookie thief. 😂

My mom would sometimes get pretty upset with me whenever she made these treats. I know what you’re thinking: Why in the world would your mom get mad at you when she’s making cookies?

Here’s the thing. If you’re familiar with the recipe, you know these cookies have to sit out on wax paper until they harden. Mom always made a couple of batches in the evening and left them on the counter overnight.

Well, the cookie thief, also known as Chelle Noelle, would sneak into the kitchen after Mom had gone to bed and help herself to a few cookies.

The problem with these delicious little treats? They left smudge marks on the wax paper! So, Mom always knew when I’d helped myself to one…or two…or three! 🤣

The next morning, without fail, I’d hear Mom call out, “Who ate some of these cookies?”

Thinking back, I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only cookie thief in the house. I suspect Dad helped himself to a few, too. And quite often, Mom would yell at him for sneaking those goodies off her counter! Poor Dad! 😂

I knew she planned to give some of the cookies away to our neighbors and others, but the temptation was just too much. That little nighttime cookie raid was well worth the risk!

Over the years, I’ve made these cookies for my own family, and I’ll admit it…I’m still the cookie thief, and my husband has taken my dad’s role as the assistant thief! 😂

So last night, I made a batch of these yummy no-bakes. No special occasion. No holiday. I simply felt like making them!

These little, chunky cookies always bring a smile to my face. Of course, part of that is the delicious combination of chocolate, peanut butter, and oatmeal. What’s not to love?

But there’s more to it than that.

Every time I make these cookies, I think about Mom and how much she loved baking for her family. I like to think that, deep down, she wasn’t nearly as upset with those cookie thieves as she pretended to be. ❤

She made those treats because she loved us. And whether we were sneaking them off the counter or enjoying them the next day, we were getting a little taste of that love with every bite.

Funny how something as simple as a homemade cookie can bring back so many memories, isn’t it?

Do you have any cookie thieves in your family? 🤣

And there it is, ladies…my little pocket of joy from this week! I’d love for you to share yours, too.

Remember, sometimes it’s the smallest things that make the biggest difference in our day.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your loved ones. Maybe you’ll even whip up a batch of someone’s favorite treats!

I’ll talk to you on Monday!

~Chelle Noelle~
